Sometimes you become what you Hate To do what you want to do Most ----
Peace was over the whole river area. It would seem that nothing could possibly break this peace. A few early morning birds were singing. There were some drunks out and about, mainly propped against street buildings.
Other then that though the area seemed devoid of life. There was little movement right now. No wait, suddenly the soft rays of the slowly rising sun were blocked by a slender figure, causing silvered hair to appear white. The figure was heading, with some speed, for one of the bridges. Although there was no obvious signs of discomfort the movement patterns should hint at not wanting to be seen.
One sleeve of the black trench coat was ripped, revealling pale skin beneath with a deep red slash marring the other almost white perfection. Icey blue eyes looked around warily searching for a quicker route. Leo could cope with the sun but he didn't particularly like it. He felt it was accusing him, or else the fiery heat would remind him of the heat of flames. Flames that destroyed his young life.
He was lost in his thoughts not paying any heed to what was around him. This was to the point that he did almost walk into one of the trees that lined the river bank.

He couldn't sleep. His dreams had been plagued by all manners of demons, real and imaginary. He lay on his bed with a fan slowly swirling the cool air around his small bedroom. He’d kicked off the Egyptian cotton sheets from his bed hours ago when he had managed to get a small amount of sleep, now he was too tired to retrieve it. A small Egyptian Mau had already occupied the clump of sheets anyways, Desmond did not want to disturb her. Dez was only wearing shorts and a t-shirt, he should have felt cold, but he wasn't. His dark eyes stared past the fan on his ceiling into a distant realm only Dez could visit. It wasn't a happy place. The muscles on his stomach rose and fell softly as he inhaled and exhaled at a rather calm pace.
“Ugh… This is boring.” He sighed and got up quickly. His sudden movement disrupted the Mau’s sleep. She shook her head then yawned. Her bright yellow eyes followed Desmond as he crossed his room towards an old dresser. The room was not very large considering Desmond lived in a flat on the river above a bookstore. It was fairly quiet most days, and the nights looked beautiful. Desmond’s flat was an eclectic collection of many different objects around the world. He had a statue of a European style dragon coiled around a letter opener, which was placed right beside a decorative Buddhist candleholder. He had a rug from India positioned by the bed so he wouldn't step on a cold hard wood floor in the morning. He loved his things, he didn't like to admit that he was a sentimental guy, but everything he had told a story about a period in his life. Only a few steps from his bed was his dresser. It was Asian inspired with a simple painted iron bar on a chain placed in between two decorative handles to keep the wardrobe doors from swinging open. He pulled the pin and let it drop, the chain caught it and made a thunk noise as it hit the wardrobe doors. He swung the doors open and grabbed a pair of dark trousers from the bottom of his dresser. He grabbed a wine coloured button up shirt from the top of his dresser. He pulled them both on and went out of the room.
“Maow.” The silver coloured cat followed Desmond out of the room. He figured she was wondering what he was up to.
Desmond kneeled down and rubbed the cat’s back for a moment. “Van, hold down the fort, I’m going for a walk.” It was just a little before sunrise as he grabbed his messenger bag from a chair by the door and walked outside in high tops, dark cargo pants and an unbuttoned shirt. He locked his apartment then went out to walk by the river. He had only moved to the area a few weeks ago, he had a friend who lived in the area, so he wasn't completely alone, but for the most part, it was Desmond and his cat. He had resorted to exploring the city a lot for entertainment. The river was his favourite spot. The early morning dew soaked Desmond’s shoes as he made his way towards one of the many bridges that connected the banks. He made it half way across the bridge when he saw a silver haired being on the other side staggering towards the same bridge. He hissed under his breath. It was probably a vampire trying to escape the sun. Its lair must not have been far for it to be out this close to the dawn. The morning rays were already starting to peak out from the horizon. The Watcher reached into his satchel and pulled out a wooden stake. He didn't care if he killed the vampire or if the sun did, he just wanted one less vamp in the world.
“Isn’t it past your bed time?” He stood his ground at the bridge with a wooden stake in his hand and glared at the creature.

Leo shaded his light blue eyes against the sun the braids trying to slink down the back of his coat. Oh they did not like the sun at all, they wanted to escape away. A soft hiss escaped, while the sun didn't set him to crispy fried immediately, it wasn't comfortable for him to be in.
"I mean no harm, please, just let me return to my home," he stated seeing a silhouetted form holding a stake. He couldn't see enough detail with the sun glaring to discern it was his old friend. "Please there is no point staking me, it won't kill me it'll just hurt and I'm already injured" he added on.
He just honestly wanted to be back home. He wanted to be able to rest. To try and heal some of his wounds ready for the next day. He was slowly still approaching. He figured chances were that even if he didn't keep going he was still going to get staked. It was what happened. He was a vampire to slayers, even if he pointed out he wasn't.
Really he was just hoping that this one would be different. He stumbled a bit weakened.

Desmond’s grip tightened on the stake as the creature came closer. He was getting ready to engage the creature but it stumbled. It was hurt. He frowned, the sun was up enough to start burning the vampire to a crisp, yet here the silver haired being was, struggling, but definitely not burning.
“… “ His stance became a little more relaxed. He cautiously made his way towards the figure. It certainly wasn't human, but it wasn't a vampire either. The only Dhampir he’d ever gotten to know was a silver haired man with similar height and features to the one in front of him. Desmond frowned and put the stake in his bag then rushed to help the Dhampir. He was definitely acquainted with this one.
“Jeeze Leo, you scared the crap out of me. The hell’re you doing out here? What the hell happened to you?” He hooked an arm around Leo’s good arm and started to turn him around. Desmond’s flat was closer. “Never mind, don't tell me right now. Seriously, you look like shit. C’mon… lets get you out of the sun.”
Leo was probably Desmond’s best friend. Desmond had other friends, but most of them were on the council and cared deeply about their jobs more than their friends. Desmond liked Leo because he was an honest, selfless, and dependable person. He couldn't believe that he had almost tried to stake Leo… again.
“So… uh... no hard feelings, right? “ He gave Leo a wide smile as he opened the lift door that would take the two to Dez's apartment.

Leo had blinked pausing as the human came towards him. Okay well it looked like the stake had disappeared...that was a good sign at least. As the human recognised him he frowned, well he knew the voice. Finally his eyes adjusted enough and stopped their protests to tell him it was Dez.
He allowed him to take his good arm and steer him round to going back the way he'd come, trying not to lean on him too much. Stubborn as he was he wouldn't afford himself the ability to be seen as weak, even though it would be no hardship to himself. The ones he hunted weren't exactly awake at this moment. If they were they wouldn't be anywhere nearby. The threat of going crispy would keep them away.
He had to give a relieved sound as they reached the lift door slowly walking in. "If I held a grudge every time you decided to try and shove a wooden pointy stake in me" he gave in response, teasing a bit giving a tired smile. "As for what happened to me? Lycan with a bad attitude. It got to say hello to a nice friendly bullet in the skull," he admitted with a bit of a smile.
"Sadly it decided it had to tear a piece out of my favourite coat and try and remove an arm before it would roll over for me to shoot it" he finished checking on the wound. Out of the sun the braids had come easing back out again resting over his shoulders now.

Dez and Leo almost had that Watcher/Slayer relationship going on. Leo had killed many vamps, which was how Dez, his ex slayer and Leo had met. They had all gone after the same target. The Slayer had actually managed to stab Leo during their first encounter. Dez had started to freak out when the man hadn't died, simply because Slayers were not supposed to kill humans. Later, Dez found out Leo wasn't human and the slayer tried to stake him again. Desmond, Leo and the Slayer eventually started to calm down toward each other. Though his Slayer didn't care much for Leo, Desmond had grown fond of him. After Desmond lost his Slayer, he and Leo still worked as a team on some cases to track down creatures. Desmond did not like to admit that he felt a little left out when Leo went out on his own.
Desmond pressed the lift to go up to his apartment. He slid the wooden door shut while still holding on to Leo.
"Were you using the silver bullets? It should have weakened it enough. Wait... was that the really huge Lycan on the outskirts of town, you went after?" His head whipped around to shoot Leo and intense glare. "Idiot. You should have called me." He heaved a sigh. "For that, I'm using the iodine to clean your wounds."
The lift stopped in front of a heavy iron door. Iron was not as effective as silver was, but it kept out most magic and magical creatures. Not to mention, it was just a heavy frickin door. The hallway was lit dimly by a 60 watt flickering bulb. It looked somewhat spooky but, he Desmond was used to it. Besides, he had lavender nailed to the threshold of the lift, and garlic on either side. He figured, if he was not dead by the time he came out of the lift, he was home free and did not have to worry about proper lighting in the bloody hallway.
"C'mon." Desmond lifted up the gate and started carrying Leo down the wooden hallway and toward the heavy iron door. He fumbled in his bag for the keys to the flat. Once he found them he shoved the key in the lock. There was a heavy thunk as the lock was released. He finally opened the heavy but silent door.
"Mao." The Egyptian Mau greeted them on the other side. She had probably gone to greet them after hearing the lift.
"Out of the way, Van." He tried to shoo her away so neither of them was tripping on the cat. She eventually hopped up on to a chair and watched them with her bright yellow eyes. The morning light was starting to pour in to the apartment.
Desmond helped lower Leo on to his couch then went to close the curtains.
"Mao.." The Mau knew Leo well. She could smell his blood and went to go check him out. The cat crossed the sofa and gently crawled on to his lap. Luckily she was not a heavy cat.
Dez went to get the medical kit. It actually had enough gear in it to perform minor surgeries. He figured Leo would need stitches, so he got the kettle boiling too.

Leo shrugged a bit "It was getting too close to my home fer comfort. 'Sides it were fun till it decided me arm were a stick to play chase with" he mumbled out. He slowly rested his weight on him staying next to him slumping onto the couch curling a bit. At least until he had a cat rest his weight on him. Slowly he reached out to scratch behind an ear gently. "Hey Van," he said quietly.
He was grateful the curtains were closed. The sun was uncomfortable for him to handle. He tried not to show it, but in truth it hurt. Didn't fry him immediately but it still hurt. His eyes were starting to fall closed. He was sleepy, though his iris' were noticeably redder hued then usual for him. He was thirsting for blood. It might explain why he'd been injured so badly by the Lycan he'd gone against.
"Dez....h...ave you got a hair tie or something?" he randomly asked. He really wanted to trap his vampire side so he wouldn't inadvertantly hurt his friend. Or the cat.

Desmond frowned and poured the boiling water into a bowl and placed a few clean bandages on a tray. The suture kit was also on the tray.
"No... I dont... I have an elastic band.. or a shoelace.. You okay?" His dark brown eyes examined Leo carefully. He'd not seen Leo quite like that before. It deeply concerned him. He was in deep trouble if Leo started acting up. Dez studied his friend for a while then grabbed an elastic from his junk drawer in the kitchen. He stuck it on the tray then brought everything over to the couch.
Van purred happily and pressed her head in to Leo's hand.
"How's this?" He picked up the elastic and handed it to Leo. "When you're done.. take off your shirt. You're gettin stitches."

Leo looked up at him taking the elastic band option forcing his vampire side back fully into the braids quickly fastening them back. His eyes retained the red hue but with how the braids were whipping about they weren't happy.
Slowly he moved cringing in pain as he took his top off revealing some lovely old scars. His new wounds were bleeding again from admittedly from the action. He looked at him "I'm human now...be gentle" he warned him softly slumping down into the couch.
He was still gently scratching Van's head behind an ear quietly.

Desmond nodded and put on latex gloves. He went to dip the needle in the water then started to clean the wounds gently.
“Don't get soft on me now, mate.” He dried off the wounds and stopped the bleeding. Once he could start, he started stitching Leo up.
Van purred and nuzzled his hand. She could feel the tension in his hands. She stayed still and started falling asleep as she snuggled against his thigh.
Dez kept his focus as the needle went in and out of Leo’s skin. He kept the sutures tight enough to keep the skin together, but not too tight. He frowned.
“Leo… you should get some sleep after this… It’ll make the night come quicker..”

Leo smiled a bit watching him quietly his eyes part closed hissing slightly in the initial burst of pain. "Holy hell that fuckin hurts!" he exclaimed, he couldn't help it. Pain that he woulda brushed off if his vampire side was loose was harder to ignore with that closed away. He knew he had to do that for his friends good though.
"Got any steak for when I wake up then?" he asked quietly. It'd do temporarily, give him a bit of enough to start the healing once he'd released the vampire side again, as well as take the edge off the blood lust.
He gave a soft smile at the cats antics. He was now watching Van, making sure he didn't grip too tightly in pain. That would never do at all.

Dez tied the last knot in Leo's stitches. It had stopped bleeding now, but the black thread presented a stark contrast against Leo's porcelain skin. Dez quickly covered the stitches over with a protective layer of gauze and taped it down to Leo’s chest. The man must have waxed because much like the rest of Leo, his chest looked flawless. Or maybe he was one of those lucky bastards that never got any. Dez was not very hairy, but he was certainly envious of Leo. Then again, the tape was now completely sticking to skin.
“Alright... keep that on for a few days, careful when you’re washing and doing crazy activities, and you should be alright-“ Leo lead a pretty active life style, those suckers were going to get ripped out the moment he stepped outside the lift on Desmond’s flat. He sighed and shook his head. “I’m wasting my breath… forget it. Just try really hard to not use your buggered arm. Alright?”
He got up and went to get Leo a glass of water and a few pain pills. He got to the refrigerator and retrieved a bottle of water. Then, Dez went to a cupboard above his stove and grabbed a bottle of pills. He went back to Leo and placed both in front of Leo on the dark cherry coffee table.
“I’m giving you something to help you sleep. As for the steaks, mate, I’ll buy you the whole bloody cow if I need too. I just have to do some shopping. I’ll be back in plenty of time before you get up.” As he spoke he went to his linen closet in the hallway and retrieved the usual bedding Leo got when he slept over at Desmond’s house. The watcher pulled out a rather fluffy pillow with a cotton pillow case and light cotton sheets to match.
“Here. Get comfy.” He also placed the blankets in front of Leo.
Van purred and stretched out her long feline legs. She spotted the pillow and blankets then went to perch on that instead.
“Shoo.” Dez gently bushed her off on his way to retrieve his messenger bag from its informal storage space on a decorative chair against the brick wall on the one side of his flat. Dez slipped on the bag then went to see to Leo one last time.
“Out of curiosity... did you actually manage to kill the Lycan that attacked you?”

Leo had pretended to listen to Dez' lecture a slight smirk starting to break free. "Was waiting for that" he stated with a grin, even laughing a bit. He nodded though "I'll try not to use it, I make no promise...n thanks for the offer of buyin me some steak" he added on.
Slowly he'd moved to make his own 'bed' as it were more then content to settle beneath the offered bedding items resting his silvery haired head on a pillow almost asleep before his eyes drifted open to look at Dez at his question.
"My record remains unbroken, its dead," he responded "5 shots of silver to its skull sorta killed it" he added on giving a bit of a proud grin. "Worth my war wounds then?" he asked smirking "it should make a nice scar y'know?" he added on with a smile shifting a bit.

Dez smiled and shook his head. "Sure.. Sleep tight." He adjusted his satchel to rest at his side then grabbed his keys off the hook near the door. The watcher tried to silently open the heavy door and slipped out. He inserted the key in the door and waited for the sound that told him it was locked. Dez took the lift outside of his flat then crossed over into the old town to do his shopping. He had the whole day to himself now. It was looking to be a beautiful day too.

It was about mid day when Desmond finally unlocked the heavy iron door and entered his flat. He hummed happily to himself. In his one arm was a brown bag with about five fresh steaks and all individually packaged from the butchers. Dez had gotten weird looks from the butcher when Dez asked for the him to try and keep as much blood in the steaks as possible. On top of the steaks were a few groceries that Dez had picked up; Lettuce, lemons, hummus, flat bread, cat food, cheese.. just to name a few. He fumbled with the bag and his keys for a moment then shut the door with his foot.
Dez' favourite find of the day had been a black leather duster. It had been given to him by the owner of a clothing shop. In return, he was taking her out to a movie. A few things had happened in that shop, but those were minor details. Dez had gotten a free coat and a date. That was the important thing.
The Watcher continued to hum to himself as he hung up his duster in the closet then picked up the groceries. On cue, Van began running around his feet to greet him.
"Van, careful." He tried to whisper. He gently shooed the cat away with one foot then continued into the kitchen to put away his stuff. He placed his things then turned to check up on Leo.
