History
History:
Kyra was the youngest of 4 children and the only girl. The family emigrated from Italy to Canada before she was born, but she grew up with many Italian traditions and in a very staunch Catholic household. Kyra was always told magic was the work of the devil and only He could create miracles. On Kyra’s twelfth birthday, she was playing hide-and-seek with her brothers, and then she made herself invisible. For an hour she hid behind a chair, when her brother finally looked over to see if she was there, he frowned and walked away. She wondered why he hadn’t tagged her and declared he had found her. He certainly would not have made an exception because it was her birthday. For 15 minutes she tried getting someone’s attention. They all ignored her. When she finally realized she was invisible, she could not believe it, she had to test her hypothesis. She went up to one of her brothers and poked him in the arm. He whipped around to see who had touched him. When he did not try to slug her, she felt a sense of freedom and happiness with her ability to not be seen. Soon enough Kyra’s power wore off and she resumed the role of birthday girl and hide-and-seek champion. Kyra did not have anyone to talk to about her powers and finished off middle school somewhat isolated and trying to hide her strange powers. She experienced mixed emotions about her abilities, sometimes they were helpful, other times she was frightened by what her raw emotional energy could produce, other times it felt natural to her. The only thing Kyra never felt was evil.
When Kyra entered the public High School system, she was not completely alone. Her brother, the youngest boy, was graduating the year she arrived. Though he had his own friends, he stuck up for her if the need arose. Kyra eventually found her place with a group of oddballs who did not quite fit into any sort of stereotypical clique. Most of them played video games or hung out in coffee shops and doodled in each other’s sketchbooks. She felt comfortable with them until a new girl, Kim, joined the group when Kyra was in her second last year. In hindsight, Kim was highly emotionally disturbed, but at the time she was Kyra’s best friend. Kim smoked, drank, partied, her parents were divorced and her mother was never home, and had a fascination with the occult. Kyra finally confided in Kim about her abilities and convinced Kyra to do magic with her. That night they had a sleep over and Kim pulled out an Ouija board. To most young people, the board is harmless and is generally propelled by subconscious movements of the séance participants. In Kyra’s case, she managed to contact and summon a demon. The demon’s name was Ozymandias. He spoke to Kyra like a concerned friend and promised to help her develop her powers.
Through the rest of high school Kyra delved deeper into dark magic with Ozymandias’ guidance. Kim eventually disappeared from Kyra’s world, as did everyone else. Kyra barely graduated high school and became violent and angry. Her parents tried to reach out to her, but Kyra eventually moved out. Their methods of reaching out to her had good intentions but were ultimately unsuccessful. Ozymandias became Kyra’s only friend and eventually, her lover. Kyra was 19 when her eldest brother, a catholic priest, came to visit her in a dilapidated apartment in a horrible end of the city she lived in. He had news that their father had died of a heart attack. Kyra began to cry and rushed for her brother begging him to help her. She’d never meant to wish her family harm. The night before her father’s death, she had a conversation with her demon about her family. The word’s “he could have a heart attack for all I care” had escaped her lips. By the next morning, her poor father had succumbed to Kyra’s wishes.
Kyra’s brother had agreed to take her under his protection and whisked her away to the sanctuary of the church. Kyra had sworn she would never do magick again. She lived with her brother in the church for a while and moved when he did. She was able to live peacefully for two years. Ozymandias did not like that at all. He eventually managed to track her down and tried to steal her away.
Kyra met Dezmond and his slayer for the first time on a chilly autumn evening. She was sitting in one of the pews with Ozymandias stalking the perimeter of the church. She could feel his darkness calling to him. A warm hand touched her shoulder. A young man with a warm British accent spoke out to her. A young woman gave her a reassuring smile then they both went out into the darkness. She thought it was all a dream. A long while later her brother returned and spoke of a courageous young man and woman from a special organization who had stopped the demon and drove him away. Kyra managed to get on with life normally after that. Her mind occasionally drifted back to the man and the woman.
Three years after living magick free, she moved to a new country, changed her name so it would be harder for the demon to find her, and opened up a book store with some inheritance money from her parents and some help from her brothers. One muggy summer night Kyra was walking home from work and literally stumbled over an injured man. He’d been mugged and stabbed. He was at risk of bleeding out on the sidewalk, she realized the blood was going to attract night life. He called her an angel and begged her to help him, he didn't want to die. Her desire to help the man as the vampires began to circle their pray forced her to break her promise. To this day she is still not sure how she managed to survive that night and bring the man to the hospital in time.
Kyra realized that the magic was something she was born with, and if used correctly, could bring good to others. She seemed much more content with that decision. Her family did not approve of her choices to resume her magick, but they recognized the difference between her teenage years and her adult life. Kyra refitted her store to a magick shop. She is one of the few openly practicing witches in the area. She does not mind the criticism and is happy to help young witches and prevent them from going down the path that she had taken when she was younger. Her store is located in the old district. The upper part of the store is simple occult merchandise and books on magic.
Soon after opening her magick shop she ran into the man from her past.

The brunette sat on a wooden stool and arched over the counter and nonchalantly flipping through the pages of her book of shadows. The book was leather bound with a magnetic clasp and a red ribbon to act as a bookmark. Kyra had bought it at one of the high-end pretentious bookstores that charge an arm and a leg for a coffee. She liked their stationery however it had also been overpriced. In different inks she had doodled pictures of various characters, some of them were customers, some of them were imaginary beings. Beside the pictures were scribbles of spells or potions, on separate pages she had more in depth notes, pressed flowers or herbs. The book had everything listed in it that she had ever done since she had first encountered “the creature” as she now called him. She did not dare call him by his real name. Names had too much power behind them. The only people who knew her real name were too far away for her enemies to get at / find. Not even Desmond remembered her true name, they had only met once and he had forgotten. When they met again, she had introduced herself as Kyra.
Kyra never flipped through the first half of the book it was too dark. As a professional witch, even she was amazed that she was still alive after being so young and living with “the creature” for so long. He had left his mark on her, but he was more like a bad ex-boyfriend now.
A silvery Siamese cat stuck its head in her line of vision and rubbed its face against hers. It purred softly. The cat placed dainty blue-gray paw on a page of the book and pressed harder in to her.
“Hello Ozzy.” She smiled and sat up properly. Many found it weird that she named her cat after her demonic ex-boyfriend, but she just saw it as a coping mechanism. It was a slow day in the store and they were both bored. She picked up the cat and set it on her lap. She carefully closed her book of shadows and placed it in a wooden drawer below the cash register. She resumed petting the male cat soon after.
Her green eyes scanned her little shop. She could sense the life forms walking past the store, but no one was coming in today. Today was just a slow day, the city had so many supernatural inhabitants that she was able to make a nice profit for herself with the amount of customers that came in, just not today. Kyra had done a lot to make the shop a respectable business. She’d stripped down the floors to the original hardwood, re sanded and sealed them, she had installed bookshelves made by her middle brother with the help of her youngest brother, and she’d painted and decorated the entire place herself. Along the left wall was hanging shelves with different incense burners and the sticks neatly stored in labeled drawers. Underneath that was a small book shelf with books on meditation, crystals, and talismans. A wooden hanger displayed different handmade authentic talismans sold for various reasons, various knickknacks used for magic and crystals were placed in different containers as well. Close to the cash register was the bigger more expensive books on potions, magic, divination, and astrology. On the right side of the room was a huge custom wall to wall shelving unit with various potion ingredients. Some of the ingredients were extremely rare. On every drawer was a label stating the name of the item and its purpose. The prices ranged from mere cents to hundreds. She even had very rare ingredients behind the counter that were worth thousands. Rare books and scrolls were also displayed behind the counter. If someone asked, they could get just about anything at Kyra’s store. The entire place was lit by natural light that poured in to the shop, and dim lightbulbs. Behind the counter was a door that led into the staff room. She was the only staff member, so it was more or less her office. She loved it here.
The bells on the door chimed as a man walked in to the store. Kyra’s green eyes lit up as he walked in. She greeted him with a smile. She tucked a lock of brown hair behind her ear then set the cat on the tall wooden counter.
